Tariq Pijning

Tariq Pijning grew up in a very musical family. It was no surprise he discovered his passion for music at an early stage. At the age of six, Tariq already appeared to have a strong predilection for the saxophone.

Starting in an orchestra, Tariq developed his musical knowledge, but in the meantime, he worked on his improvisational skills, in which he was inspired by big names like Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Michael Brecker and Candy Dulfer. Several talent shows offered Tariq an opportunity to test his skills to an audience, which resulted in one prize after another. This only encouraged him more to step into the spotlight.

At the age of 14, Tariq joined the band Alloway, where he gained his first stage experience. It already appeared that he was a very promising talent.

Nowadays, Tariq has already built an impressive list of venues he played at and releasing his own remix of “Call it Luck’’ by Van Velzen on Sony Music also shows he has a real talent for producing music besides playing the saxophone.

Last year he focused on collaborations with Danny da Costa, one of the most promising DJs at the moment, with whom Tariq has teamed up to amaze audiences with a new and unique sound.
He also made his first international appearance while playing at Couleur Cafe Festival in Belgium, with over 10.000 party-people. Last summer he supported Danny da Costa during his Spain tour where they played at clubs like Pacha and the famous Millennium parties known as the most memorable event of the Costa Brava with 3200 party people in the biggest nightclub in Catalonia. They also performed at all major festivals in the Northern part of Holland like Indicolor Festival, Beachrockers Festival and Heavenly Outdoor and numerous club gigs all over the country.

A big highlight for Tariq this year was to play together with the one and only Sam Feldt in Paris at Club ZigZag.

Tariq’s style can be characterized as uplifting, innovative and pure, but above all, Tariq’s style is very unique. Wherever he plays, Tariq knows how to lift songs to a higher level. With rhythmic and melodic influences from jazz, funk, blues and soul, mixed with modern house, Tariq always hits the right notes, at the right moments.

Be amazed by this young and promising saxophone talent!
